There are a large number of activities and skills for each grade level, ranging from 41 skills for Pre-K through 241 skills for sixth-grade! Race against the clock and watch your score for total correct answers. This site also includes some other features for a fee. But this part of this site free, This site also allows you to view the State Standards for each state in the US. Tip: many games have students typing answers. They do not need to click "submit" with the mouse. Pressing Enter works, too, and your students may not know this.

After viewing the net of a two-dimensional object, students must try to figure out how it can be folded into a cube, then click on the net to watch the process. Each of the topics includes buttons for "Revise" or "Test." The "revise" button offers a detailed review of the topic. (Revise is the word used by the British to convey the American word Review.)The website includes Learner Guides to assist teachers, parents, and students in navigating the site, and about specific difficult concepts. Since this site was created by the UK, Americans may notice some slight language differences. Much of the information is available in a printable format.

This is a one stop shop for SMART Board (interactive whiteboard) math lessons. All information and activities found on this site have been created by the site's owner Harvey Almarode a retired education professor from James Madison University. The site contains pre-made SMART lessons, web resources and links to SMART professional development. Lessons can be found and downloaded on all math topics.
These lessons are created for the SMART Board so SMART Notebook software is needed to run the lessons. If you don't have SMART Notebook the lessons can be viewed using SMART Notebook Express found at http://express.smarttech.com/#. The site also sells a flash drive with the lessons loaded on it, but you don't HAVE to buy anything.

Online Math Learning is a huge website with numerous resources including interactive problem generators, a video library, worksheets, and links all organized by grade level and subject level. This site is very well organized, easy to use, and has something for every grade level and nearly every subject/topic area. Advise students to ignore the advertisements.
In the Classroom
Use the interactive section's problem generator to create team competition as students use the site on an interactive whiteboard or projector. Check out the videos to reach struggling students or help deepen understanding of concepts. For a project, have students recreate a video using a site such as SchoolTube (reviewed here) and share with classmates. This site provides many resources for math teachers of all grades and includes lesson plans, articles, classroom and administrator questions and answers, and helpful links - all located under the "helpful tool" tab at the top of the site. Click to find elementary resources, algebra, calculus, and other "basic math." Free webinars are also available within the site. Math Solutions was founded by Marilyn Burns, who is known as one of the foremost experts in elementary math instruction.
Although much of the website is devoted to materials and Professional Development for sale, there are many resources available for free that are extremely helpful for classroom teachers. One such resource is the classroom lessons portion. Lessons are in ready to print PDF format making them easy to review and use for planning. Sample classroom conversations are often included along with samples of student work and suggestions for use in the classroom. This site also sells many resource materials, so links to these materials are included for alternative resources within the lesson. No need to buy, however! Teachers can sign up to receive the free monthly newsletter containing information about new materials on the Math Solutions site.

Although this site is "busy" with clutter from some related advertisements, it is easy to navigate by grade level, subject, or more specific topics such as grammar, writing, and vocabulary for English, or word problems, geometry, and algebra for math, biology and chemistry for science, as well as Spanish, Japanese, and Hindi language activities. Yummy Math shares mathematics problems and scenarios based on things happening in the world today. In January, some of the topics related to the NFL playoffs. Yummy Math lists activities chronologically as well as by mathematics topic. Topics include Algebra, Number Sense, Geometry, Food Math, Sports, and many more. The site is sure to be highly motivational for students as they complete math problems based on items of current interest such as the Super Bowl, American Idol, and American candy sales. Most problems contain a printable word or pdf document with questions. Some also include video or audio clips. Especially helpful is the Contents link which provides an alphabetical listing of all activities on the site.
In the Classroom
Make math relevant to any student. Assign weekly problems from the site for homework or daily classwork. Ask students to create new problems to be solved by classmates using the topic of the week or local topics of interest. Have students make a multimedia presentation using one of the many TeachersFirst Edge tools reviewed here. Some tool suggestions are (click on the tool name to access the review): Adobe Creative Cloud Express for Education, Vevox, Animatron, Renderforest, and Microsoft PowerPoint Online. Click Elementary, Middle School, Jr. High, or High School to find the many (MANY) resources). The topics vary greatly and the quantity is impressive. You must have Smart Board software installed on your computer to open these files. Some files will work using the SMART Notebook Express online viewer available here. (Download the notebook file from Longwood's collection to your desktop and then upload to SMART Notebook Express site.)

Videos are hosted on YouTube and SchoolTube and are all 10 minutes or less in length. Content includes arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, business calculus, and calculus. Each main topic includes links to the videos organized by more specific topics - for example, algebra videos are sorted by an introduction to algebra, rational expressions, equations and functions, equations and percentages, exponential and logarithmic functions, graphing, linear equations, and more. If your district blocks YouTube, the videos may not be viewable.

This site provides educators and students numerous resources in algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus. The teacher section includes a worksheet generator while the student section offers two calculators including a scientific and graphing calculator. MATHguide also includes lessons, tutorials, and online quizzes. The student projects section includes many creative options for making math more than a pencil-paper routine.
In the Classroom
Use this site on a projector or interactive whiteboard to discuss and informally assess prior knowledge as you start the study of topics in geometry, algebra, and pre-calculus. Use the quizmasters section to have students solve equations and receive instant feedback. The site also offers ideas for student projects that delve into different aspects of math. Don't forget to show students how to use the online calculators in the student section. MATHguide is a great resource for middle and high school math teachers and students. This fabulous collection of lesson plans, activities, and web links from NCTM is a professional treasury for math teachers. The two menu selections at the top, Lessons and Interactives, are actually drop down menus to find lessons by grade levels, Brain Teasers, Mobile Apps, a Web Sketchpad, and more. The interactives are a challenging practice for concepts ranging from basic fractions and graphing to congruence theorems. Narrow your search with keywords. Each activity includes a description and grade level recommendation. Highlighted activities and Lessons on the home page change often. Many lesson plans also include technology links, but others are low-tech or no-tech. Illuminations is created by NCTM.
In the Classroom
Keep this one in your professional favorites to find supporting technology for any math concept. As you find practice or extension ideas for student use or at home reinforcement, share specific links on your class web page or classroom computer center for students to access independently or as you assign them for needed practice.
