This site provides educators and students numerous resources in algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus. The teacher section includes a worksheet generator while the student section offers two calculators including a scientific and graphing calculator. MATHguide also includes lessons, tutorials, and online quizzes. The student projects section includes many creative options for making math more than a pencil-paper routine.
In the Classroom
Use this site on a projector or interactive whiteboard to discuss and informally assess prior knowledge as you start the study of topics in geometry, algebra, and pre-calculus. Use the quizmasters section to have students solve equations and receive instant feedback. The site also offers ideas for student projects that delve into different aspects of math. Don't forget to show students how to use the online calculators in the student section. MATHguide is a great resource for middle and high school math teachers and students. Explanations are also available in Spanish. Login information is not required to play the Math videos. Create a login to make playlists or subscribe to certain types of videos. Students should be advised that advertisements for Math books and other materials exist in the top right of the site and should be avoided.

Consider sharing these links as part of a collection of materials for online help for your students on class web pages or wikis, documents, or videos. Maybe ask students to generate their own "online help" pages for each math unit, selecting and annotating the web resources they find most useful. Math Open Reference is designed to teach High School geometry and functions. The site is organized into modules by geometric topic with specific lessons for each concept. The main topics include Plane Geometry, Coordinate Geometry, Solid Geometry, and Tools (Math/Scientific Calculator, General Function Explorer, Graphical Linear Function Explorer, Graphical Quadratic Function Explorer, and Graphical Cubic Function Explorer). Each module includes interactive elements that allow you to experiment with the topic concept. The interactive activities make abstract concepts more concrete.
In the Classroom
Math Open Reference modules are effective in a lab setting or using an interactive whiteboard or projector with the entire class. Although the lessons are designed for High School students, some of the activities are appropriate for Middle School students. The ability to make and print custom graph paper is a very useful feature. Have student groups explain a geometric concept on the interactive whiteboard, putting the explanations in their own words. This math site is a MUST SEE for teachers of all grade levels. Much of this site is designed for K-8 teachers, but there are a few activities for the high school grades. Although the site is mainly a drill and practice, it offers such an array of topics and levels that there is something for everyone here (and it is terrific for differentiating lessons in the classroom). Sample topics include roman numerals, Algebra II, pre-algebra, measurement, absolute value, early childhood math, telling time, money, place value, fractions, decimals, mixed operations, and more! And did we mention, each topic includes rich, colorful interactives for students to practice skills! Most topics also include options to specify content (for example, choosing to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division). fun activities for all levels!
In the Classroom
Introduce this site on your interactive whiteboard, then allow students to explore on their own. This is a great site to use as a learning station or center. Be sure to list this link on your class website for extra practice or advanced materials for gifted students. Use "Dynamic Paper" to create number lines, grids, tessellations, shapes, spinners, nets, and more. This web resource is an invaluable tool for math educators. The objects that are created can be exported as PDF files to be used in worksheets or as Jpeg images for use in other web applications or programs. The site can certainly save a lot of time if you have been trying to create diagrams using word processing applications!
In the Classroom
This site can be used to create anything from elementary math worksheets to high school geometry worksheets. Science teachers may find good uses for this tool in trying to create professional looking measurement activities. If individual computers are available, challenge students to create their own number lines or tessellations. Share HOW to use this site on your interactive whiteboard or projector. And don't forget to mention this link on your class website, great for at home practice!

There are a large number of activities and skills for each grade level, ranging from 41 skills for Pre-K through 241 skills for sixth-grade! Race against the clock and watch your score for total correct answers. This site also includes some other features for a fee. But this part of this site free, This site also allows you to view the State Standards for each state in the US. Tip: many games have students typing answers. They do not need to click "submit" with the mouse. Pressing Enter works, too, and your students may not know this.

This site offers a ton of links to math videos with supplementary support problems. There are many topics, and most include subtopics: everything from rounding to exponents to decimals to pre-algebra! It is a very cool place to find homework help or an alternative teaching approach for various math concepts from things as simple as adding whole numbers to more advanced topics such as geometry. The site is divided by click-able math topics. The site does have some advertisements, but they are fairly easy to overlook. If your district blocks YouTube, the videos may not be viewable.
In the Classroom
Teachers could add this site to their class web pages to provide extra support. Specific videos can be shown on the interactive white board as part of learning centers to allow the math classroom to become more like a math laboratory. If you can't find the specific topic you are looking for here, why not challenge cooperative learning groups to create a simple video teaching the new concept(s). This site provides countless books, films, plays, and television shows that all relate to specific math concepts. What a fabulous way to integrate math, language arts, history, and more! The site includes the title, year, and brief description. Teachers can browse by genre, medium, motif, and/or topic. Media include everything from comic books to plays to television series. Genres include historical fiction, children's literature, adventure/espionage, fantasy, science fiction, and more. Sixty-three fiction offerings are even available FREE (in their entirety) online! The site is still developing and frequently adds additional fiction titles. Students who enjoy fantasy will also enjoy choosing books from this site, since the author admits that not all math mentioned in all the books is "real" math!! The site allows teachers to search by keyword and also to browse new offerings in the compilation of titles.

Use this site to find extra reading choices for reluctant readers who are interested in technology and math. Use it also to show students that math processes are inherent in a lot of life's experiences. Search the site for your current math topics. Looking for extra practice and better ways to track student progress? Use this free site for explanations of concepts, see example problems, and answer a practice problem. The English is British style, so remember that "revise" on this site means the same as "review" to Americans. Teachers can register their students to follow their progress. Registration is free, but does require an email address. If you plan to have students register individually, you may want to create your own Gmail account with up to 20 subaccounts for each group of students (by code name or number) within your classes. Here is a blog post that tells how to set up GMail subaccounts to use for any online membership service.
Data on correct and incorrect answers as well as strengths and weaknesses are kept for students. This site does include some minor advertisements. Watch out for a link to "essay paper" buried at the far bottom right on the home page: a place to purchase essays online!
