In the Classroom
Use this site as a learning center or station during a unit on Mesoamerican Civilizations. Have students complete the site individually or in cooperative learning groups. The IEAA is dedicated to the study of the art, history and culture of ancient Egypt through teaching, research, exhibition, and community education."
In the Classroom
Use the images and videos in the exhibit for a visual discovery activity. Select 3-4 images, placing them on a slide-show presentation. Have students take notes on each of the images and videos, noting what they observe, infer and predict about each one. After the presentation, have a class discussion based around student notes. This would be great review activity before an assessment, allowing students to apply the knowledge just learned. This site from the British Museum offers a literate, visually attractive, yet very approachable on-line study resource on Egyptian culture, customs, and history. The site has numerous topics and layers, with most content delivered through stories. There are also instructional games and quizzes. Five stars for this one! The games require SHOCKWAVE. The site includes the link to get it, or you can get it from the TeachersFirst Toolbox page.

Don't let the cartoon style fool you! This site is a very complete resource for students to study Greek mythology, stories, characters, and more. It presents the content is small, visually appealing doses, and includes links to lesson plans and other related information. Well worth a look if you want a site that students can use on their own.

This site offers a wonderful list of X (formerly known as Twitter) feeds to consider if you are just starting out or if you are adding to your feed related to history. The list is categorized by General, Media, Eductors and Students, Departments and Publications, Military, Historical Tweets, and includes the X (Twitter) name with a link and a short description. Feeds include the Library of Congress, quotes and sayings from Thomas Jefferson, and HistoryDay (see what happened on this day in history), and many more.
In the Classroom
Create a classroom X (formerlyTwitter) account and choose feeds to follow that relate to classroom studies. Assign different students to follow the feed each week to summarize and review. Challenge students to find other X (Twitter) feeds to follow. Have students create an X (formerly Twitter) account as a historical figure as part of research projects. This interactive site is especially designed to give upper elementary students an introduction to ancient civilizations, World War 2, and the Victorian era. It contains interactives, artwork, printables and quizzes.
In the Classroom
Introduce this site on an interactive whiteboard or projector and try the activities as a whole class. Or have small groups rotate to a whiteboard and manipulate the activities together. Put a link to the activities on your class website and let students use as a center. Use the quizzes as a pretest to see what students already know. When you have finished studying the unit have students retake the quiz to see how much they learned.
