Explore and view archives from seven museums in Europe from the comfort of your computer screen! Choose a specific time period, country, or object group to view artifacts. Links to artifacts include an image along with its name, type, country, chronology, time period, and museum location where it is housed. Click on the image thumbnail for a 3D image and links to more in-depth information. Find main characteristics, discovery information, state of the object, and deepenings (a short analysis and description).

In the Classroom

Share this site in art class as a resource for different art and artifacts from early times. Allow students to explore on their own to find objects by date, country, or type. Learn about the ancient Nordic Gods by using this simple, yet thorough, site. Learn about Tyr, Thor, Freya, Odin, and others. Click on a god's name and find out where and what s/he reigned. Learn about Yggdrasill, the World Tree, and Asgard where the gods lived. See the meaning of Germanic, Old English or Old Norse names.

In the Classroom

Include this site when studying Nordic or Viking mythology. Have a link to this site on your class web page for students to use at home. You might also like to share the infographic Gods and Mythology of Vikings, reviewed here. Divide students into small groups to investigate the gods and where they lived. Have them present their findings to the class by creating a multimedia presentation using one of the many TeachersFirst Edge tools, reviewed here. You might consider having students use Fakebook, reviewed here. Have them create a "fake" page similar in style to Facebook from the perspective of any of the gods. Ask students to create a short story involving one or more of the gods and using the Old Norse names for other characters in their story. You might suggest the definition of the name indicate what that character is about.

In the Classroom

Beyond Mulan is part of TeachersFirst Help! I Lost My Library/Media Specialist series reviewed here. The article provides an in-depth explanation of Ancient China and early dynasties, a book list with suggested activities for each book, and video suggestions for student learning. In addition, several extension activities are provided to enhance student understanding of Ancient China through compare and contrast activities and research about the Great Wall of China. This article includes correlations to ISTE and AASL standards.

In the Classroom

Take advantage of the resources in this article to introduce Ancient China to students of all ages. For example, when sharing YouTube videos with students, use Timelinely, reviewed here, to create an interactive learning experience by adding comments, highlighting important information, or linking to Google Map locations. Enhance instruction using Nearpod, reviewed here, to create and share interactive lessons available to use as live presentations or as flipped or blended learning activities. Finally, be sure to visit Nearpod's library to find several Ancient China presentations to use or modify to fit your needs.

The Gold Road Project features an interactive map spotlighting the medieval Sudanic empires of Ghana, Mali, and Songhai. Use the icons at the top of the map to view the information by selected periods or categories that include landscapes, places, people, trade/artifacts, and architecture. An additional option offers the ability to view trade routes containing information that identifies the main and important axis of trade and sources of gold, copper, and salt.

In the Classroom

Introduce this map to students as you begin your studies of medieval Africa. Allow them time to explore the map independently, then share ideas and questions created from their explorations. Use Google Jamboard, reviewed here, to gather students' thoughts. For example, within one Jamboard, create frames (slides) for students to post questions, another for important information found, and another for comparisons between medieval Africa and contemporary Africa. Extend learning by asking students to share their understanding by creating maps made with Google My Maps, reviewed here. Use Google My Maps to create virtual field trips that feature links, images, and videos to tell the story of Africa.

ReadWriteThink presents this lesson to explore the role of superstitions in modern-day life. Historically, March 15 (the Ides of March) has been associated with doom and disaster. Even if you are not teaching Julius Ceasar's Rome or Shakespeare's play by the same name, you can engage your students by studying superstitions.

In the Classroom

Introduce this lesson with a brief discussion about what a superstition is and what are some superstitions your students know about. Create a Padlet, reviewed here with columns for categories of superstitions, for example, good and bad luck, walking under a ladder, opening an umbrella indoors, etc. After the discussions, follow the Classroom Activities and explore the Websites area, having students rotate through stations to explore the subject. As a culminating activity, ask students to create a video using Vmaker, reviewed here to share their impressions about superstitions (leave this wide open, whether they believe in them, have they discussed superstitions with anyone outside of class, and so on). Then, ask students to comment on at least two of their classmate's videos using Now Comment, reviewed here. Use the comment process as an opportunity to talk about digital citizenship and empathy.
