Artificial intelligence (AI) offers exciting opportunities to transform assessment practices. In this workshop, you will learn how to use education-specific AI tools to create engaging, effective formative and summative assessments for your students. Join us to explore various AI tools that can help you design and generate assessment items, rubrics, feedback, and reports based on your curriculum's learning objectives and standards. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Identify and evaluate different types of AI tools for assessment creation and delivery; 2. Use AI tools to design and generate formative and summative assessment instruments, such as quizzes, projects, portfolios, and presentations; and 3. Let's face it, creating proper citations is difficult due to the many different formats and the variety of sources cited. EduBirdie helps with this problem with its Auto Citer. Click Citation Generators from the top menu and then choose the type of format you need. The three step procedure begins at the top menu with choosing the type of work that is cited then moves on to adding requested information to the form generator. Click "Generate Citation" to complete your citation ready to copy and paste into any document.
In the Classroom
Use your interactive whiteboard and projector to show students how to use this tool for citing their sources. Share this website for all of your projects using research so students know the correct procedure for citations. Castbox provides tools for creating and sharing podcasts. First, create a free account, then begin by entering the Creator Studio. Next, select the upload icon to drag and drop your media file in a supported format of up to 400M. When the file begins uploading, complete the areas provided to include basic information for your files, such as a title, description, and publication date and time. Castbox also offers an option to upload an image for your cover design. When finished, select Publish to complete the creation of your podcast. Finally, click on your podcast to listen and share using the link or social media links provided.

In the Classroom
Castbox is an excellent podcast-sharing option for simple podcasts or when sharing audio recordings that have already been edited, for example, using editing tools on your computer. Create regular or special podcasts to share on your class web page or wiki. Are you looking for even more ideas? Record class assignments or directions. Record story time or a reading excerpt for younger ones to listen to at a computer center AND from home, adding a touch of blended learning to your classroom! Have readers (perhaps older buddies) enhance their learning and build fluency by recording selected passages for your non-readers. Launch a service project for your fifth or sixth graders to record stories for the kindergarten to use in their reading and listening center. Challenge students to create "you are there" recordings as "eyewitnesses" to historical or current events. Make a weekly class podcast, with students taking turns writing and sharing the "Class News," encourage and extend learning and have students create radio advertisements for concepts studied in class (Buy Dynamic DNA!). Invite students to write and record their own stories or poetry in dramatic readings. World language students or beginning readers could record their fluency by reading passages. Allow parents to hear their child's progress reading aloud, etc. Compare world language, speech articulation, or reading fluency at two points during the year. Challenge your Shakespeare students to record a soliloquy. Write and record a poem for Father's or Mother's Day (or other special events) and send the URL as a gift to that special person. If you have gifted students who lean toward the dramatic, this tool is simple enough for them to create dramatic mini-casts without needing any additional tools. Developed by the Buck Institute for Education, who are THE experts for project based learning, the PBLU projects are designed to save you time in the project based learning process. However, each project is flexible enough to customize it to your needs. Sign up for their newsletter to stay updated about new project development. You can even suggest a project for them to create through the Community Wish List.
In the Classroom
There are a variety of projects presented at different grade levels. Don't hesitate to look at one that seems beyond or below your grade level. They are easily adaptable. For instance, the one by Biz World created for third through fifth grade students to experience entrepreneurship can easily be adapted to a product that high school students might be interested in such as earrings, designing a class ring, or a video explaining how to conquer levels in a video game.

Use this interactive to create a "race against time" newsfeed that challenges students to take notes efficiently. Follow the directions to create a list of items to add to your newsfeed, then add images if desired. Your newsfeed automatically plays and advances through your list; however, it also provides an option to pause during the feed. When finished, use the URL or QR code to share your Newsfeed Generator or use the embed code to embed to your website.
In the Classroom
Add the Newsfeed Generator to many classroom lessons. Share a newsfeed on your whiteboard to engage students at the beginning of a new unit. Provide a set of clues and use their responses to gauge prior understanding. Create newsfeeds to announce field trips, locate areas of interest for social studies lessons, or point out locations in novels and other reading material. Have students create their own newsfeed as an activity for sharing a favorite location, where they were born, or to begin a biography of a famous person or series of historical events such as the civil rights movement. In science class, have students create a newsfeed sharing traits of different habitats or environmental disaster sites. This page is part of the TeachersFirst Help! I Lost My Library/Media Specialist series reviewed here and shares activities and book lists for teaching about women as changemakers. After viewing a short introduction and background information, visit the activities portion of the site to Read and Do activities based on books featuring Malala Yousafzai, Jane Goodall, Greta Thunberg, and other women changemakers. Extension ideas include how to become a changemaker, a biographer, compare women changemakers, and learn about good trouble. Information includes correlation to ISTE and AASL standards.
In the Classroom
Take advantage of the book suggestions on this page to find additions to your classroom library. Consider adding women as changemakers at one of the stations when doing station rotations. View the archive of OK2Ask: 3 Cool Tools for Station Rotations, reviewed here to learn more about using station rotations in your teaching strategies. Extend learning using the 4-Circle Venn Diagram Creator provided by Canva, reviewed here. Canva shares many templates and ideas for different versions of Venn Diagrams to compare and contrast information. Use these ideas to compare and contrast women changemakers' actions, background, and information.

TeachersFirst Reading Treks are a way of creating a virtual field trip of resources about a piece of literature or text using the My Maps feature of Google Maps. This Trek provides activities correlated to the author's story as she participated in the Civil Rights march from Selma to Montgomery. The teaching guide includes many teaching suggestions for grades 6-12 correlated to Common Core Standards, ISTE Student Standards, and National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies. In the Classroom
Take advantage of the many teaching ideas found on the PDF Instructional Guide. Engage and help students understand and discuss online content using Fiskkit, reviewed here, as a collaborative discussion platform. Enhance learning by having students create a Civil Rights timeline of the top ten to twenty events using Timeline JS, reviewed here, and annotate each event with their reasons for choosing it. Timeline JS also allows for students to annotate with music, photos, videos, and more. Use Odyssey, reviewed here, and have students to create digital stories including text, interactive maps, and other multimedia content.

Microsoft Teams is a great all-in-one hub for the collaborative classroom. This "basics" session will introduce you to channels, tabs and posts which are the foundation of communication and collaboration in Microsoft Teams. When used with remote learning best practices, these building blocks can help you create a welcoming environment for your students. YouTube is a video hosting platform for viewing and sharing videos with over one billion users around the world. Content ranges across all subjects and interests. Use YouTube's search feature to locate videos for any content and age ranges. You are also able to upload your own videos. After uploading videos, YouTube offers basic editing tools to remove portions of your video, add music, and add end screens. Use the share option to share the link to your video using social media or obtain the embed code to include on a website or blog. Be sure to check on your school's policy and use of filters before using YouTube in the classroom.

In the Classroom
YouTube provides opportunities for a variety of classroom uses. Create your own YouTube channel to provide instructional videos for your students. Make a playlist of videos that support your teaching and allow students to learn from different viewpoints. With proper permissions, have students create videos sharing their learning and understanding of concepts and share them on your class webpage. Flip learning by having students watch videos at home to provide context before classroom lessons. Are there too many ads and distractions on YouTube videos? Use VideoLink - Safe YouTube, reviewed here, and generate an ad-free version of the video. Use YouTube videos to create an interactive learning experience instead of passive learning by using a site such as Edpuzzle, reviewed here, to modify any video to your lesson. Add questions, clip out unneeded portions of the video, and add comments and information by adding a recording in your voice. Iditarod Teacher on the Trail includes posts for the current Teacher on the Trail detailing their journey from selection through participation in the Iditarod. Posts include classroom lessons correlated to Common Core Standards about the Iditarod in all subject areas. Choose links to particular parts of the curriculum to view videos, classroom images, download printables, and complete lessons. This site focuses on each new teacher of the year; be sure to see archives and information from previous years' teachers.
In the Classroom
Bookmark this site as you and your class learn about the Iditarod and follow the Iditarod as it takes place each March. Sign up to receive email notice of the latest blog entries. Take advantage of the many free lesson plans for use in your classroom. Have students create maps using Zeemaps, reviewed here, to follow the journey of the Iditarod. Zeemaps allows students to create audio recordings AND choose various locations on a map where the route takes place. Create a quick poll (with no membership required) using SurveyRock, reviewed here, before the race begins to let students predict the winner of the Iditarod. Have students use Fakebook, reviewed here, to create a "fake" page similar in style to Facebook about the participants in the Iditarod.
