After viewing the image and hearing the word to spell, click and drag letters to spell the word. Hear immediate feedback as play continues. Save work and finish later (if desired). Simply write down the short code provided. This code will allow you to return to your game within 30 days.

In the Classroom

This is an excellent site to use on your interactive whiteboard or projector. Share how to use this site with students. Create a group learning center at your interactive whiteboard or use the site on classroom computers. Allow them to practice spelling simple words within the game. Share a link to the site on your classroom website or blog for practice at home. Challenge students to move from beginner to advanced levels through practice.

Have you ever told anyone, "Let me Google that for you?" That is what LMGTFY is all about! This site allows you to demonstrate how to Google (and much more) terms, then send a link with a step by step demonstration on how to complete the search. LMGTFY has grown beyond Google and now offers users the ability to select from several popular search engines including Bing, Yahoo, Ask, and DuckDuckGo. The drop-down box provides choices to search the web, images, video, and more. After making selections and entering a search term, click to get the link or choose preview to view the information.

In the Classroom

Use LMGTFY to teach students how to use search engines effectively. Create links demonstrating searches using different terms and different search engines and have students analyze the results. When students create multimedia presentations of research projects, ask them to include a screen share using Free Screen Recorder Online, reviewed here, to show their search method using LMGTFY. This site is perfect to use with young students to demonstrate proper search techniques.

Book It! is the popular free reading program provided by Pizza Hut since 1984. The program is available October through March each year and encourages students in grades K-6 to set and accomplish monthly reading goals. Educators help students set achievable goals and provide a free pizza certificate upon completion.

In the Classroom

Encourage student reading by signing up and sharing the Book It! program with your students. Set goals together with your students that match individual reading abilities and interests. Use a spreadsheet such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets to document student progress and accomplishments. Visit ReadWriteThink, reviewed here to find a large variety of activities and templates to extend learning with any book. Be sure to visit the section with printouts that contains many graphic organizers, writing starters, and assessment tools.

Join us as we take a deeper dive into the Triple E Framework which helps educators evaluate the effectiveness of technology use in students' achievement of learning goals. We will provide strategies and tools to help you understand whether the technology implemented in your classroom impacts learning in a deep and meaningful way. Learn to analyze lesson plans and apply the Triple E tools to inform your practice so you can design and teach better lessons using technology. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) is a necessary component of all classrooms today. As educators, we need to find ways to reach all students and help them better understand STEM topics. In this session, we'll share a few STEM activities for educators with limited tech options and those who are simply looking for a no- or low-tech STEM lesson. We'll also reflect on the activity suggestions and discuss possible management concerns that arise when working in cooperative groups. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Explore no-tech and low-tech STEM activities; 2. Understand the engineering design process; and 3. Plan for the integration of no- and low-tech STEM activities in the classroom. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.

Do you have awesome activity sheets, but they need to be tweaked a little to make them work for your classes? Fill in the question along with up to 30 answer options. Use the code provided to embed the poll on any website. Share the poll also using social media share buttons. Sharing the poll by link allows users to also leave comments. Polls stay online until they have received no responses for 30 days.

Share polls on a projector or interactive whiteboard to discuss and informally assess prior knowledge as you start a new unit, asking questions about the material. Discuss in groups why students would choose a particular answer to uncover misconceptions. Use for Daily quiz questions to check student understanding as a means of formative assessment. Use a class account to have student groups alternate to create a new poll for the next day. Place a poll on your teacher web page as a homework inspiration or to ask questions to increase parent involvement. Older students may want to include polls on their student blogs to increase reader involvement. Have students create polls to use at the start of project presentations. Use polls to generate data for math class (graphing), during elections, or for critical thinking activities dealing with the interpretation of statistics. Use "real" data to engage students on issues and current events that matter to them.

What Do Snowmen Do In Summer? - is one of the TeachersFirst Help! I lost my media/library specialist collection found here that features topics and resources that focus on integrating literacy with technology. The Introduction and Background Knowledge discuss how important it is, yet how hard it is, to keep children engaged in literacy once summer vacation arrives and the weather gets nice. The Activities suggest how to get books into kid's hands with links and ideas for where to find them. Some exciting ideas for activities are offered, such as Camp Book-it, Chuck E Cheese Reward Calendar, and a few others. The last section of the article suggests Extension activities you may not have thought about regarding summer literacy. Ideas found on this resource include correlation to ISTE and AASL National School Library Standards.

Browse through the suggested activities found in this article. Then, create a Wakelet, reviewed here, page of books and ideas, and post it on your teacher or school webpage. If the school library is open during the summer, ask them to post your Wakelet page, too.
