We've included it, however, as an eloquent statement of why children are important, and why teachers teach. Try showing one of these pictures to your class and asking them to write about what the child in the picture might be thinking or doing.
In the Classroom
Use the images on this site to inspire some creative writing! Allow students to explore the site on classroom computers, picking one of the images to choose as the subject of a creative writing piece. Have students write an essay, poem, editorial - depending on what's being studied, based on what they see in their image. Attach the images to their pieces, and it could make a great display in your classroom too! We suspect that this very nice introduction to Hanukkah was written for non-practicing Jews. As a result, it works for both Jews and non-Jews. You'll find information on the history of Hanukkah, descriptions and instructions for Hanukkah observances, and other information about Judaism.
In the Classroom
Introduce this site on your interactive whiteboard or with a projector. Perhaps start with the Basics tab at the top and have students take the Hanukkah Quiz as a formative assessment. Then have small groups of students assigned to the different sections from the top menu. Use Jigsaw Classroom, reviewed here for students to research their section and share with others. Legends and Myths can retell universal truths. Students can have fun learning that similar stories appear in many cultures. This Australian site has collected a number of legends and packaged them, nicely illustrated, in a single collection that's easy to browse. Upper elementary students can use these on their own, or try them as a read-along for primary students. Lots of good ideas here.
In the Classroom
Have students try out this site on individual computers, or as a learning center. By accessing the "Animal" section, and then "weird animal facts," the site provides some excellent class room openers to spur discussion! Did you know Tigers have striped skin, not just striped fur? Or that Penguins can jump 6 feet in the air? Native American cultures offer wonderful examples of oral traditions and storytelling. This site from PBS provides examples of these, a look at some common story themes, and audio files with a number of different stories. Try using this one in a study of Native Americans or as part of a unit on stories from different cultures. Although this site is slightly dated, and some of the audio files are not updated, the content of this site remains relevant and useful to many classes; there is a lot of good information here.
In the Classroom
Use the educators guide to find ways to incorporate this site into your classroom, either through lesson plans or classroom activities. Support music education at home and school with the many free resources shared in the Kids Edition of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra's website. Visit the educators' portion of the website to find digital teaching activities and music playlists featuring music from around the world. Each playlist includes an engaging downloadable activity packet loaded with fascinating information about the featured topic's countries, musicians, and musical instruments. Explore and learn about the orchestra instruments in the lesson, including downloads that teach about instrument families and an orchestra seating chart. Additional downloads include a crossword puzzle, word search, and drawing activity. Be sure to explore the complete educators' portion of the site to find many lessons correlated to science, social studies, and language arts concepts.
In the Classroom
Share this fantastic site with your school's music teacher, but save it to use with students for a variety of different lessons. For example, incorporate music into your lessons when teaching about worldwide countries, taking advantage of the featured playlists in the educators' section. Engage students with an introductory activity using Google Jamboard, reviewed here, to add sticky notes with students' knowledge of specific instruments, countries, or different kinds of music. As you add information and resources to your lessons, use Wakelet, reviewed here, to create collections to share with students that include videos and websites related to the content taught. Have students show what they know using Adobe Creative Cloud Express for Education, reviewed here, to create a website, video, or presentation on their chosen topic. For younger students, work together in groups or as a class to create a music book using Book Creator, reviewed here. Include audio recordings, student drawings, and videos as part of your digital book.

Students reading Twain's books may be surprised to know that he lived in Hartford, not along the Mississippi. This site from the restored home offers a virtual tour, a kids' section with a word search, and some very basic information about the house. This one's worth a look for those interested in late 19th century architecture.
In the Classroom
Teachers wanting to introduce some of Twain's personal life before or after reading one of his books can do just that with this site. Share the site with students on the interactive whiteboard, watching the virtual tour or examining the exhibits.
