Make learning new words fun for students using Vocabulary Adventure Cards. These digital flashcards are intended for use every day to help kids build their vocabulary, stimulate their imagination, and enjoy storytelling. The cards encourage children to connect the words to their own lives, invite them to think of words to complete stories, and challenge them to name the word being defined when read aloud.
In the Classroom
Conduct an interactive vocabulary hunt. Use your whiteboard to show Vocabulary Adventure Cards, and then have students find related objects in class. Have your students make short videos with Vmaker, reviewed here explaining word pairs from the site, boosting their vocabulary and digital storytelling skills. Have students choose one of the stories and collaboratively add to the story using new words. easyCBM provides free tools for screening, monitoring student progress, and providing interventions in reading and math for students in grades K-8. Create a free account to access the resources included with easyCBM lite, then begin by adding up to 200 students to your dashboard or create groups for progress monitoring. Select "Measures" to choose progress monitoring selections by grade level and topic. All choices include a printable assessment; some also have an online option. Follow the instructions to record student scores and create reports demonstrating progress. Learn more about implementing and using easyCBM's tools by using the tools found at the resource center.
In the Classroom
Include easyCBM as part of your ongoing progress monitoring and benchmark assessments throughout the school year. These assessments are designed to be administrated three times a year to assess literacy and math progress. Find intervention strategies at The Teacher's Response to Intervention Guide, reviewed here. This guide includes strategies for three different tiers of intervention - High-Quality Instruction and Proactive Assessment, Targeted Intervention, Intensive Intervention, and Evaluation.

MSN Kids features content and search features geared toward elementary and middle-school aged kids. In addition to news stories around the world of interest to kids, the site also includes crafts and videos that appeal to students. Use the links to different categories including animals, science and tech, and more to narrow down features. One very nice feature for classrooms is that this site does not include any advertising or sponsored content.
In the Classroom
Set the home page on classroom computers to MSN Kids for students to explore and learn about current events around the world. Have students choose an article and use it as a basis for a research project. Challenge students to create an infographic using Canva, reviewed here, to share information learned from the site. Diffit is a tool that helps teachers differentiate lessons using any text, article, or web page. To use Diffit, you need to create a free account. Then, select one of three options: Literally Anything, An Article (or URL), or Any Text or Excerpt. Then, choose the approximate reading level you want for the differentiated materials. After entering all the necessary information, click Generate Output. Diffit will produce an adaptive reading passage, a summary, key vocabulary words, multiple-choice and short-answer questions, and open-ended prompts. All of the generated content can be edited or added to. Use the dropdown box to adjust the reading level or language. Share the materials with students by copying them into a document, printing, or exporting them to Google Docs/Forms.
In the Classroom
Use Diffit to quickly adapt and differentiate text or content by reading level and language needs. Use Diffit to translate text into the native language of multilingual learners and generate comprehension questions. Differentiate text for special needs students or gifted students based on their ability. Engage students in the learning process by copying the questions generated by Diffit into an interactive quiz format resource such as Blooket, reviewed here. Extend learning by asking students to respond to the open-ended questions by sharing a video response using Flip, reviewed here. Wordtune is a fabulous Chrome extension and Microsoft Word add-on that takes your writing and provides options for rephrasing and clarifying the information to make it more concise and engaging. The free plan offers up to twenty rewrites per day; each rewrite includes up to 280 characters. The Chrome extension works with Google Docs, Twitter, Outlook, Facebook, and other websites. After installing the extension, open any included site or document, highlight an area of text up to 280 characters, and select the Wordtune icon. Using AI technology, Wordtune generates a list of possible alternatives to your current writing. Select your preferred option to replace your work. In the Classroom
Use this tool to enhance your writing and share it with students for their writing projects. Include Wordtune with writing lessons to explore different methods of stating information and techniques that make writing easier to read and more interesting to the reader. For example, take a random sentence from a piece of student writing and use Wordtune to analyze and offer options for stating the information differently. ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot that allows members to have conversations that answer questions and assist with many tasks. Create an account using your email address, Google, or Microsoft account. Use the "Send a Message" box at the bottom of the page to type a chat request and click send. ChatGPT provides a response based on your input. Use the option to regenerate the request if you want to see different answers, or use the chat box to type in clarifying information to improve the response. Find your previous chats on the left side of the screen, and click any chat to edit, view, delete, or obtain a link to share. Always verify any information provided by ChatGPT before using it. This is an evolving tool, and many features change (or upgrade) on a regular basis.
In the Classroom
Use ChatGPT to increase your productivity and as a resource for finding classroom resources. For example, use the chat to find activities accompanying your current book study. An example question might be, "What are some activities to add to our study of Charlotte's Web in third grade?" Use a clarifying question to select one of the provided activities and ask for free online resources that support the provided response. This example includes several clarifying questions that provide additional ideas for books and activities to accompany Charlotte's. Ask ChatGPT to differentiate activities for students who need extra support or for those that need enrichment activities.
