Note: tangram pieces cannot be rotated, making this a slightly easier spatial activity, perfect for elementary students.

Taskade is an easy to use to-do list creator and manager. Just start typing to create a list, no registration required. As soon as you start the list, a link appears for sharing and collaborating. To save, create a free account with a username, email, and password to find and manage previous items. Taskade is not just an easy list creator; it is a very powerful tool with video conferencing, an activity feed, and recent projects. Taskade is the answer for remote teams to work together. Change the theme when you click to share a list on Facebook or Twitter (but you don't have to share; just open one of them and go back to your list to change the theme). You can even add Taskade to your Chrome browser for easy access or when you open a new tab your current list will appear as the opening page!

Create checklists of steps in a project. Place all notes in one place, so you do not forget. Use this tool easily in your Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) classroom since all students will be able to access it for free, no matter what device they have. They could use Taskade for assignment information, reminders, and more. Consider setting up a class account that can be used by all students. Spell out the use of the site and what is allowed and not allowed -- and the penalties. Search for activities and ideas by grade level and curriculum topic using the Search and Advanced Search buttons. Narrow choices provided in the curriculum section by filtering options to include lessons, activities, complete units, and more. Maker Challenges offer a variety of experiences for hands-on learning with topics including titles like A Doghouse Design Project and Create and Control a Popsicle Stick Finger Robot. Other site options allow you to search by educational standards and provide information and resources for teaching engineering to students in grades K-12.

Bookmark this site as a resource for finding STEM lessons and activities for all grade levels. Collaborate with your peers using a bookmarking tool like Papaly, reviewed here, to share all of your resources. Papaly offers you the ability to add notes to shared resources making it easy to discuss and add comments to items shared. Instead of having students write journal entries during science or maker lab activities, enhance student learning by using a video response tool like Flip, reviewed here, to have students respond to essential questions and comment on their peers' observations. Hundreds of teachable movies! That's how many lesson plans or guides you'll find at Teach With Movies. Search one of the numerous categories to locate the movie, documentary, or short you want. Some of the categories are Subject Matter (and not just math, science, history, etc.), Social-Emotional Learning (themes like Ambition, Coming of Age, and many others), Appropriate Age (three through adult), and Set Up the Sub (found on the top menu under Features), just to name a few. Lessons include a general summary of the film and discussion questions with answers. Most also include a rationale for using the movie, the subjects, topics, and themes, if there is a book - a bit of background and review of it, objectives, possible problems, historical context, and more. Of course, the topics for consideration depend on the film. Sign up for the newsletter to see when there are lesson guides for the newest movies. Whether culminating a unit or introducing one, using these lessons and guides along with the video will help to make a lasting impression about your topic.

Movies offer an entertaining format for history and thematic studies. Use a video to add to the learning experience of students who are visual and auditory learners. Teachable Machine is a Google AI experimental project that allows you to create learning machine models without coding knowledge. Use images, sounds, and poses to build models that classify and sort information. Explore the tutorials to learn how to create a learning machine and view examples of use, such as making a model to determine the ripeness of a banana, detect different sounds you create, and recognize the tilt of a head. Also included are lessons for K-12 classrooms that use Teaching Machines as part of lessons in AI and ethics and Dancing with AI. Start your project by choosing the type of project to create, then follow the steps to add samples to use in training your model. Complete and save your project, then share it with a link or other options available through Teachable Machine.

Share Teachable Machines with students who enjoy working with computers and ask them to develop models for different learning activities. For example, ask students to use the image model to create examples of categories of animals for young students and provide them with a picture bank of animals. Next, use the create lesson option to generate a lesson based on your objectives and standards. Options are available to upload resources and import standards. After developing lessons, use the edit options to adjust the lesson and activities as desired. What's Watson? It is IBM's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Platform. Use Teacher Advisor With Watson to find standards-based vetted math resources and lessons for grades K-5. Use your email to sign up and start exploring the site. Search by grade level, standards, or browse strategies and resources recommended based on your grade level and content information. Search results also provide links to related lessons and teaching strategies.
In the Classroom
Bookmark this site as a resource for finding instructional content when teaching elementary math. Then find additional standards-based assessments, or create your own, using a tool like Edulastic, reviewed here. Edulastic includes a database of over 20,000 standards-based math questions. Have students use a voice recording tool like Vocaroo, reviewed here, to share problem-solving solutions with fellow students. As a culminating activity to your math unit, have students create a book including images of their work using Write Reader, reviewed here. Categories include most popular items as well as specific items such as paper, pencils, or health and cleaning supplies. TeacherMatic.com is a set of artificial intelligence (AI) generators that create various teacher materials. Required tasks that take up much of your teaching time just got easier! The website offers lesson planning, student tracking, grade book management, and resource sharing. After registering for a free account, you can generate up to five activities per day.

There are two types of AI generators on the site; course planning and activity generators. The course planning generators can create lesson objectives, flash cards, topic notes, and a scheme of work. The course activity generator creates learning activities, rubrics, multiple-choice quizzes, SMART goals, discussion topics, and more. To use TeacherMatic's generators, click on what you would like to create, enter an objective, the number of moves you need, and the level of complexity your lesson requires. These ten question quizzes, written by Thinking Teachers, are changed each Friday and are ready to go with one edition for middle school students and one for elementary students. The quiz presents ten questions, one at a time. You have only ONE try to pick the correct answer, so think carefully. You get points for each correct answer, totaling up to a possible 100. When you finish, you see your score and how long you spent. Questions are intended to stretch your thinking. Printable versions are available along with answers to the previous week's Twister. A new version of the Twister is mobile-friendly and adjusts to any screen size. Take the Twister with you wherever you go!
In the Classroom
Since elementary and middle school curriculum content varies from location to location, it is unlikely that every question will fall within the scope of your school's curriculum. High point questions may fall outside standard classroom fare. Five-point questions tend to be at the knowledge/comprehension/application level of Bloom's taxonomy and closer to "normal" content. Ten pointers are more likely cross-curricular application/analysis, and twenty pointers require analytical thinking and a wider experience level, such as knowledge of current events or information beyond normal curricula. Twenty pointers may require more than one student's input.Do the questions as a whole-class activity with a projector or interactive whiteboard with students contributing the portions of knowledge they do know toward solving the question. Using teamwork and thinking aloud can often help the group reach a conclusion that no single member could do on his/her own. They can each test different math answers to see which one is correct. This process will not only foster thinking aloud and group communication, but also model test-taking skills for multiple choice.
Alternatively, do the Twister in small groups, with one student an answer entry but others as researchers on neighboring computers to find out what the group does not know. It may be helpful to assign roles: moderator (assigns what to find out and helps the group reach consensus), keyboarder (enters responses, may conduct research in a new window), or researchers (find information as assigned). Use the Twisters to model and teach information literacy skills in a high-motivation activity. Or offer the Twisters as an enrichment challenge or extra credit option for students to do at home. Ask parents to be on the honor system to sign a note indicating the score their child achieved. Since parents may be overly interested in helping, you may want to simply give extra credit for anyone completing the quiz, no matter the score. Be sure to mark this ready to go exclusive in your favorites and share it on your teacher class web page.
