MIT + K12 is an excellent site where MIT students create videos and teach science concepts to K-12 students. Though the daily operations (outreach program) is gone, the videos are still freely available. MIT + K12 was created to be used as an avenue for current engineering, science, and math students. The goal is to change the perception of these roles for young students and encourage development in STEM skills. Choose videos sorted by topic or grade level. If you sort by grade levels, be aware there aren't as many choices for the younger grades. Do a keyword search for specific terms. Each video includes the assignment (question addressed in the video), the MIT's student's proposal for the video, and the short video explanation. Don't see what you need? Create an educator account and pose an assignment for a MIT student to address in a video lesson. The videos are mainly shared on YouTube. If your district blocks YouTube, then they may not be viewable.
In the Classroom
Science teachers will want to bookmark and save this site for use throughout the year. Browse the various "ready to go" topics to find something useful in your classroom. Share the video on your projector or interactive whiteboard. Have cooperative learning groups view different videos and "report back" to the class about what they learned. Submit proposals to MIT for video explanations of any topic you wish. This is a great alternative if an interactive whiteboard or projector is not available. Use this tool to collaborate with other teachers when creating lesson plans or student documents. Listen to an explanation of the mistake by choosing the mp3 option. Download audio explanations through a simple right click. This site was created in the United Kingdom. American English speakers may notice some slight differences.

Bookmark and save this site for classroom use throughout the year. Show a poster on your interactive whiteboard and have students explain the mistake shown in the poster. Use this site as a model for students to create their own classic mistakes posters with errors made in the classroom. Have students upload a photo they have taken and add voice bubbles to explain what they learned by using a tool such as Phrase.it, reviewed here. Password Folder allows Windows users to create password-protected folders on their PCs using downloadable software tools. Once downloaded and installed, add a password to protect any folder in three clicks. Begin by selecting the file to download to your device and following the installation and setup directions. Once installed, select any folder and add a password; protected folders turn red and then display a lock icon to indicate they are locked. To open a protected folder, click open as usual and enter the password. Use different passwords for each folder, or select the "One password for all folders" option to lock multiple folders with one password.

Add Password Folder to your Windows device for many different uses. For example, protect sensitive student files, private data, or financial information. In addition, use a password when sharing files with parents to ensure that only authorized viewers access personal information. Inside your account, add pages to store, share, and organize links. Add the browser button or drag links into Draggo to put in your inbox; organize when you have time. You can have up to 10 tabs to save your important links. Choose to keep private or make public via your own personalized Draggo URL. Editing is not possible without a user name and password. The introduction video to this site is the only part of the site that appears to require Flash.

The science portion includes eleven learning apps, a Teachers Guide, and Family Science Fun activities to promote learning of contents such as plants, ramps, and shadows. The early math activities include ten apps that teach concepts, including subitizing, spacial thinking, and data analysis. The Teacher's Guides have lesson ideas, circle time activities, and suggestions for learning centers and outdoor activities to reinforce concepts. Student learning apps are available for download on the Apple Store.

Share the learning apps on this site with parents for students to practice math skills at home. This site also benefits students who need reinforcement in specific skills as a method for review. Digital Escapes are online versions of immersive games where teams discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks to escape from the game site. They're an exciting, fun, and effective learner-centered teaching strategy you'll reach for again and again. Learn how to implement this instructional strategy in your classroom and about the many benefits of this approach, such as developing problem-solving skills, fostering a growth mindset, encouraging collaboration and teamwork, and promoting access to content knowledge. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Understand Digital Escapes as a learner-centered instructional strategy; 2. Explore a collection of Digital Escape examples to understand how to use the strategy in the classroom; and. 3. Plan for the use of Digital Escapes in instruction. Tizmos offers a student-friendly bookmarking and home page dashboard tool that works for even the youngest of students. Small screenshots provide a visual representation of each link for ease of choice. Choose the "Try it now" link to get started then scroll to the bottom of the page and choose the free plan. Sign up using your email. The free account offers two folders and up to 15 Tizmos (bookmarks), 5 videos, and 3 custom photos for an unlimited period of time. Add sites by pasting in the URL. Add Tizmo's bookmarklet to your browser to easily add sites at any time. Drag and drop your bookmarks to arrange in any order. Make sure your page is marked public to share using your unique URL.

In the Classroom
The use of QR codes in the classroom is limitless. Set up student computers with a QR desktop code reader, and it is easily assessable by all students young or old. Share this link on your website so families can download the QR reader onto home computers. Create QR codes for assignments for directions, rubric information, editing instructions, or the places in which to find resources. For a model, create QR codes to describe any part of the model. Create a QR code to go home on student planners reminding them about homework. Place outside your classroom door to describe your classroom. Add another QR code to tell your schedule, or learning goals. Send home audio announcements of special events to your families. When students are absent, create podcasts of missed class discussions, shared on a QR code. For study guides, provide a QR code with answers so students can self -check. Create a living history museum with in-depth explanations in QR codes. For vocabulary words in English or any other language, provide correct pronunciations and definitions of each word. Have student create QR codes as study guides or a way to present information. Create a problem solving page which is completed by each student. Using a QR code, scan to self check. QR codes can be used everywhere!

Create, collect, organize, and share video collections from YouTube and Vimeo easily with Huzzaz. Build a video library around any topic with just a few clicks. Click and drag the Huzzaz bookmarklet to your browser toolbar. Anytime you see a video, click the bookmarklet to save. Rearrange videos in your collection as desired. Add tags and brief descriptions. Add additional videos as desired. Share complete collections using links for Facebook, Twitter, and email. If your district blocks YouTube, then you may have to limit your choices to Vimeo.
In the Classroom
Create a classroom account and have students add videos for use with any classroom topic. Teach students to use tags you have approved so everyone can find the videos easily. Create and share video libraries for review and enrichment resources or to "flip" your classroom. Build a professional video library for sharing with colleagues during professional development sessions. Use embed codes for major blogging platforms to embed video collections directly into your blog or website. Embed codes also work well on a wiki, so you could embed a certain tag collection for students to review or learn.Edge Features:

Join PBS kids and Calliou, the curious preschooler, from the book series by Christine L'Heureuxz and illustrator Helene Desputeaux. Calliou explores the world while using his imagination on many different adventures. Activities, printables, videos, and a new app for your mobile device all feature Calliou and his curiosity. The activities feature school readiness skills involving spatial awareness, memory, puzzles, matching letters, and following musical melodies. Advertisements are only for Calliou products.

In the Classroom
After reading some of the Calliou adventures to your preschoolers, bring him to life on the PBS kids website. Be sure to check out the Meet the Characters area (under About) to introduce this resource. Use the activities on your interactive whiteboard, or use at center time. Recommend this site to parents as a resource for school readiness. Depending on the age of the child, activities can be played with an adult or without an adult.

Pear Practice is a gamified learning experience that promotes collaborative learning and independent practice using tools provided by Pear Deck, reviewed here. Use Pear Practice to create learning experiences or choose from the large selection of activities in the practice sets. When creating a set, Pear Practice allows members to create multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, drawing, and drag-and-drop questions. Once a practice set is chosen, create an assignment for individual practice or start a live practice by choosing one of the game mode options. Options within live practice activities allow educators to set time limits for questions, allow guest students not in Pear Deck classrooms, and create random groups. Students join activities using the unique code or by sharing a link. When sharing as an assignment, specify a start and ending date and assign an accuracy goal for students to achieve. Students can retake the assignment as often as needed to meet the accuracy goal. Many activities in Pear Practice's public library correlate to Common Core Standards.
In the Classroom
Include Pear Practice as part of your ongoing practice and formative assessment activities. Browse the site's public library to find many activities for all grade levels and subjects, then edit questions to fit your needs. Use this feature to differentiate practice materials and games to accommodate the different needs of your students. Create sets that meet your specific needs as you become comfortable using Pear Practice. For example, generate practice sets for multilingual learners to learn vocabulary before beginning a new unit or make a set for students needing additional math facts practice.
