#TeachLivingPoets is a robust resource that seeks to get contemporary poetry into the hands of students. Among its goals is the desire to provide students with "poetry that reflects their identities, backgrounds, and present circumstances." Subscribe to and follow the site's blog to read about the use of poetry in classrooms. Find specific teaching content at the link for hyperdocs. This portion of the site contains many lessons featuring a variety of poets and styles. Browse the virtual library and find poets as a resource for locating diverse poetry examples. Finally, visit the Poetry Review portion of #TeachLivingPoets to find reviews written by teachers for teachers.

Bookmark and save this site as a resource for finding and including contemporary poets and poems in your poetry units. Share with students, then have them browse through the site to find poets that appeal to them. Curate and share favorites using Milanote, reviewed here. Milanote is a virtual tool for organizing information that allows you to upload images, files, links, and notes. Ask students to share information about favorite poets, portions of poems, or lists of favorite phrases from poems they have read. Use Perusall, reviewed here to enhance learning through collaborative discussions of the text of poems. Perusall includes tools for providing group discussions along with areas for individuals to add notes for personal use. Create groups within Perusall based on your students' interests and preferred poets. Enhance learning by asking students to write poems of their own or share a poetry reading of a favorite poem. Create flashcards for your classes -- or have them make their own. Try using them as an introduction to a concept, then again in the practice of the concept, and one more time as a final review. This would be great for teaching Latin prefixes and suffixes of words used in science terms or for standardized test preparation. Try having students create flashcards and share with each other to quiz themselves within their own groups. Clicking on Discussion Group in the upper right corner to start a discussion thread about a flashcard to extend learning. Teach students in higher grades how to create flash cards with multiple blanks to challenge their brain to remember more pieces of the puzzle. Show them how to carefully read through their classroom notes and underline the most important word or words in a sentence. Then have them leave out the most important words for their flashcards. Learning support teachers might want to have small groups create cards together to review together before tests. Get step-by-step help in creating an impressive resume with ResumeCoach. First, choose from an assortment of resumes or let ResumeCoach choose the one best for your chosen profession. Next, select a template and get advice on appropriate and professional wording to include. After selecting a template, fill in the information to include following the provided steps. When finished, download your resume or share it online using Google or directly to LinkedIn. Registration isn't necessary unless you share your resume online.
In the Classroom
Aside from the obvious use of creating a resume for a job application, this site offers an excellent resource for students to learn about the process of job hunting and the requirements for obtaining a career in any field. Ask students to complete a personal resume as a way for them to highlight their individual skills. Have students complete a resume for their "dream" job that focuses on the unique skills that make them the best candidate. Have students create a resume for a fictional or real character in history. For example, create a resume for a past president that includes a list of his accomplishments while in office. Have students include these resumes as part of a research project and include them using tools found at Adobe Creative Cloud Express for Education, reviewed here.

Nobelprize.org is the official website of the Nobel Prize. Here you find information about Alfred Nobel, the prizewinners, interviews, and photos. Videos of interviews of Nobel peace prizewinners, speeches, ceremonies, interviews, banquets, lectures, announcements, award ceremonies, and documentaries fill the gamut of all of the prizewinners. The Nobel prizes awards are in literature, chemistry, medicine, peace, economics, and physics. Under the Education tab at the top find arieties of educational games/activities and lesson plans help explain many of the Nobel Award winners' work. This site clearly explains and illustrates the purpose of the awards, the award winners, and their ideas. Videos give an insider look at each of the winners.

Project Ready provides twenty-seven teaching modules focused on improving relationships and instruction to multicultural youth. The curriculum focuses on educating youth services library staff on how to amplify multicultural works. It provides strategies for improving library programs and services for urban youth, Indigenous youth, and children and teens of any color. Included in each module are videos and audio examples focused on the topic. Begin with the Curriculum Guide, from the right menu "Pages," to understand the organization of the modules and the thought process toward creating the cycle of instruction.
In the Classroom
Project Ready's modules are designed for use by individuals or small groups. Although this content is directed at library services, the information is invaluable for anyone who works with youth. Follow the curriculum for your personal growth or as a grade or content-level peer group. Completing all of the modules requires an extended time period; in fact, it might be helpful to use for professional development over two years instead of one school year. If you and your peers don't have time to complete all of the curricula, consider choosing individual modules based on your desired professional development goals and school needs to study as a group or for your own personal development.

Mapping the Road to College is an interactive tool for exploring college information based on 5th through 9th grade Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) scores and compared to median ACT scores used for admission. Use the provided tools to select the date of last MAP testing, score range for reading and math, and state. The interactive map displays college profiles including on-track MAP scores, popular majors, and admission information. Click on different colleges to view their profiles and additional economic information.

Use Mapping the Road to College as a valuable tool for understanding and exploring college admission requirements. Share with middle school students to help understand the importance of standardized testing when applying to college. Older students will benefit from using the interactive to explore different colleges and universities from around the country and their academic profiles. After creating an account, follow the prompts to create lists, folders, and tasks. Create task lists for projects and use labels to prioritize jobs, import a calendar, add and assign items to collaborators, and much more. This colorful "web" of terms shares scientific disciplines, learning theorists, learning paradigms, and key concepts of learning theory. Learn about some of the "big names" in child development and education. Brush up on your own professional knowledge of countless educational theories and topics. Explore educators such as Piaget, Dewey, Montessori, and Gardner. Read articles about constructivism, multiple intelligences, behaviorism, and more. This site was created in the United Kingdom. American English speakers may notices some slight spelling differences.
In the Classroom

NovoEd is an online learning platform focusing on collaboration, project-based, and team-based learning. This tool, geared toward small group learning, caters to group interaction and peer-to-peer collaboration. Choose from several different learning categories such as finance, design, or math and science to view offerings, many provided by Stanford University. Narrow down options by starting date or length of a course. Enroll in courses with others to form your own group or join as an individual and interact with others enrolled in the course. Receive a statement or certificate of accomplishment with the successful completion of courses.

Unhangout is a free platform for connecting community-driven learning opportunities. Participants gather in the site's lobby at the time of the event, introduce themselves, and possibly view a short presentation or video together. After introductions, participants choose breakout rooms based on their interest. Breakout rooms hold up to ten participants at a time and open in a new tab so they can continue to add to the main chat if desired. Within the breakout rooms, conversations focus on a common topic and include options for members to use their webcam to discuss topics, view videos together, or work on a shared document. Following the event, participants receive an email with a transcript of the event and email contacts of fellow participants. Create your event by logging into your account and adding information including date, time, and additional hosts if desired. Other options enable you to set privacy options, allow follow-up emails, and provide for a custom URL.
In the Classroom
Unhangout offers many opportunities for classroom use and professional use. Use this site to introduce a topic, for example, the Civil War. After your initial introduction and discussion, enhance learning and ask students to choose a breakout session based on their interest - perhaps causes of the Civil War, battles, Civil War leaders, and cities. Within these sessions, have students share ideas on the focus of their learning and discuss how to divide up research and sharing of information. After the session, as students conduct their research, have them share resources using a collaborative Wakelet, reviewed here, stretching everyone's learning. Wakelet is a free bookmarking tool for sharing videos, documents, online resources, and more in an easy to view format. As students gather information, modify learning and use Timeline JS, reviewed here. Timeline JS offers the option to upload and add photos, videos, audio, Tweets, and Google Maps. After sharing group projects, challenge students to redefine their learning and share with their peers in a multimedia presentation using one of the many TeachersFirst Edge tools, reviewed here.
