Engage students and deepen content area knowledge by using Animoto to create instructional videos. Use text, audio, and video to provide additional context to content area instruction for your students or use student-created videos as formative assessment. Learn with other educators and brainstorm ways you and your students can use Animoto in the classroom. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Learn basic use of Animoto; 2. Explore three different ways to use Animoto in the classroom; and 3. Plan for the use of Animoto in instruction. This session is appropriate for teachers at all technology levels.

Next, choose the "view resource" link to access and download any relevant materials.
In the Classroom
Bookmark #GoOpenVA to use as your first stop in lesson planning. Take advantage of the search filters to narrow down the content and grade-level information to suit your needs. This website is also an excellent resource for finding materials to differentiate instruction. Use higher-level activities to challenge gifted students and search for content for remediation. As you gather resources into a collection, or lesson plans, be sure to think about ways to incorporate technology in meaningful ways to enhance and extend learning.

Select from fifteen categories of teasers divided into three categories - math & logic, language & visual, and other. Brain teasers are also sorted by difficulty level, beginning with very easy and proceeding up to very difficult. Each puzzle includes the solution to explain the logic behind the answer.

Bookmark and save this brain teaser site to use throughout the school year. Share a problem of the week with your students to complete as homework or during a work center. Provide teasers of different levels of difficulty to differentiate and challenge your students. Enhance student learning by asking them to explain their success in solving challenges and sharing their process to find the correct solution. Both images are similar in appearance; however, shadowing provides subtle depth to the icon. Browse through the site to find available icons such as plants, classroom items, and much more. Click on any image to select the free version download. After selecting a download, images are downloaded to your computer in a zip file. Open the zip file to view and use the PNG image file.

Use images from this collection with any digital projects, and be sure to share with students to use with their digital creations. Encourage positive attitudes toward learning with this anchor chart that highlights five positive characteristics using the acronym of ZEARN. The seven-page download includes one page with information about the chart and six additional pages for display. Although described as a tool for encouraging positive math attitudes, this chart works well for any subject or content area.
In the Classroom
Share this anchor chart with students and post it on a bulletin board to remind students to reflect upon their work and learning process. As discussed on the information for the chart, provide students with badges for demonstrating the different qualities found on the chart. Instead of a printable badge, use a digital badge creation tool such as Open Badges, reviewed here, to create unique badges to share with students. Include students in reflection and developing positive attitudes by encouraging them to use this anchor chart as an example to create their acronym and learning attitude goals. Use Canva Edu, reviewed here, to design and share anchor charts to print and display in your classroom and online.

easyCBM provides free tools for screening, monitoring student progress, and providing interventions in reading and math for students in grades K-8. Create a free account to access the resources included with easyCBM lite, then begin by adding up to 200 students to your dashboard or create groups for progress monitoring. Select "Measures" to choose progress monitoring selections by grade level and topic. All choices include a printable assessment; some also have an online option. Follow the instructions to record student scores and create reports demonstrating progress. Learn more about implementing and using easyCBM's tools by using the tools found at the resource center.
In the Classroom
Include easyCBM as part of your ongoing progress monitoring and benchmark assessments throughout the school year. These assessments are designed to be administrated three times a year to assess literacy and math progress. Find intervention strategies at The Teacher's Response to Intervention Guide, reviewed here. This guide includes strategies for three different tiers of intervention - High-Quality Instruction and Proactive Assessment, Targeted Intervention, Intensive Intervention, and Evaluation.

Spaces is a portfolio-creation tool that provides assessment opportunities and demonstrates student progress through three different types of Spaces. First, create a Class Space to share files and media and promote discussion for the whole class. Second, Group Spaces offer the ability to connect with groups designed from within the Class Space. Finally, Individual Spaces allow individual students and families to engage in sharing learning products. Use the tools provided in Spaces to add tags to show progress or curate work products. Other options include the ability to assign activities on specific dates and to particular groups and individuals.
In the Classroom
Access the included guides to learn about the features of Spaces and to import your class. After creating a class, invite students to join by sharing the class code or link. Access is available on all devices and through apps available on Google Play and the Apple App Store. Introduce students to Spaces by asking them to upload a short video or photo introducing themselves to the class. Create and share student portfolios that demonstrate growth in reading, math, science, music, art, or other subjects. Share student work during parent/teacher conferences to show and highlight student progress.

Letter Tile Free Play offers a free digital playspace to explore and practice reading skills using letter tiles and digraphs. Begin by selecting a format for moving letters; options include using a mouse, trackpad, or touch input. The playspace offers lower case letter tiles, basic digraph tiles, and six color tiles. Next, move tiles onto the playspace to create and sound out words.

Use Letter Tile Free Play with emerging readers to practice sounding out and spelling words during reading groups or as a free exploration opportunity during computer center time. Share with parents to use at home to practice forming and reading words. Use this guide provided for parents to find examples of how to use the letter and color tiles as a learning tool. Share this site and the parent guide with parents for use at home. For example, use the color tiles to indicate the number of letters found in a word as a visual tool for students to use when creating words. When using the color tiles, consider selecting one specific color to indicate the use of a digraph. This visual reminder makes it easier for students to understand that the digraph represents one sound created by two letters. Document and share student learning with parents using Seesaw, reviewed here.

In this session, educators will go on a journey to learn how to integrate Google Maps into instruction. Learn about strategies for group collaboration and how to create and customize your own map by adding placemarks and paths--and remember, it's OK2Ask questions at any time! As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Explore Google Maps and its features, 2. Learn about uses for Google My Maps in education; and 3. As a result of this session, teachers will: 1. Review the fundamentals of computational thinking and how they can be applied across K-12 disciplines; 2. Explore MakeCode and Hacking STEM, two resources that promote computational thinking; and 3. Plan for the use of computational thinking in the classroom.
