Use this animated site to help students visualize how blood circulates through the heart. Younger students can easily follow the well-labeled animation, and older students may be interested in the tutorials, which explain the various stages of the cardiac cycle in much greater detail.
In the Classroom
Display this site on your interactive whiteboard or with a projector to introduce to students. Pair strong readers with weaker readers. Have all students use Wordnik, reviewed here, to hear the word pronounced and to read the different definitions. Enhance student learning by having them make a Padlet, reviewed here, to list the words and write the diffent definitions. Then, students can discuss which definition is correct for their use; older students can discuss how the two definitions are similar. This site is the perfect addition to any classroom learning about paleontology or archeology. Divide students into cooperative learning groups, and allow them to explore the site on classroom computers. Despite its untimely crash to earth, the Genesis spaceship still managed to bring back tiny samplings of raw material from the sun for eager scientists to analyze. This site provides an overview of the entire mission, video clips, photographs, and descriptions of the processes scientists are using to investigate the Genesis canister and its contents. Younger students will enjoy the interactive games and activities related to the mission and follow-up investigation by NASA. Be sure to check out the Creator's Kitchen for teacher resources and suggestions. A few resources on this site require Flash or QuickTime, however, there is so much more here that doesn't that it's worth a look by you and your students

It's July 20, 1969 and millions of Americans are glued to their television watching Neil Armstrong take that first historic step on the surface of the moon. This multimedia NASA site recreates that Apollo 11 mission, from its launch to its splashdown. Students can view vintage photographs, listen to the mission's audio recording, browse news articles, and tour the video gallery.
In the Classroom
Use the video clips over the interactive whiteboard to supplement the text in discussing the Apollo missions. The clip of the first landing would be a great way to introduce the topic, putting all students at the same level of understanding before beginning a lecture or class discussion. Complete a free online registration and begin to explore an impressive collection of learning modules that address chemistry, general science, physics, math in science, process of science, earth science, and scientists and research. Many modules contain interactive animations, a glossary, related current events, practice exercises, and biographic information about scientists who worked with that particular concept. Members can personalize each module with comments, links, or notes.
In the Classroom
Include this site to supplement your current grade 6-12 science curriculum. Use the resources to differentiate instruction for gifted students in lower grades or as remediation for struggling students in older grades. Use the student materials for differentiating instruction or as homework. Have students share their learning or understanding of a topic with video explanations using a tool like Flip, reviewed here. Flip is an augmentation tool for video responses to a question along with comments from peers. Transform technology use in your classroom and take student learning a step further by asking them to create and share their own multimeda presentation along with suggestions for learning about their topic of interest. Students, teachers, and parents can turn to this excellent resource for comprehensive help with science fair projects. At the top of the page is a video "Operation Build It." The first eight minutes are mostly about Home Depot's Kids workshops, but starting about 8:57 the video gets into students creating a workshop at home - tools they will need, safety ideas, and spaces to work. The rest of the video is mostly about kits that can be provided by Home Depot. Next, explore project Ideas which are categorized by Scientific and Engineering Ideas. Scientific Sreps include a brief explanation for each step and planning sheets for Elementary and Secondary students. finally there is the Presentation section with an example and completed directions and a materials list. Scroll down the page to explore different projects by year, Also, find resource on how to organize a science fair, and how to get parents involved in the process.
In the Classroom
As an introduction, show parts of the video to the class, use Reclipped, reviewed here, to show just the part you want. For interested students, you may want to contact your local Home Depot to see if they offer the Saturday workshops for kids.

This is a great site for a Cultural Geography class studying population and TFR. Use the fact sheets on this site about several developing nations to start a class discussion on population growth, and factors that contribute to a growing or decreasing population. The impact of cloning on 21st century society is examined in this non-partisan, fact-based WebQuest that encourages research, analysis, and evaluation. Students, working in teams, are asked to consider the ethics, politics and science of the cloning process as they establish a government policy to regulate cloning. Teacher resources and website links are provided, along with a timeline and content standards. Because of the controversial nature of this real-life problem-solving challenge, exercise caution when implementing.
In the Classroom
Save this site as a favorite, and use the webquest during a discussion of government oversight, and how it has affected areas such as science. Astronomical history is about to happen! On June 8, 2004 the planet Venus will cross the face of the sun, an event that has not occurred since 1882. Tune into this site to view a live Internet webcast of the transit and an interactive timeline detailing Venus transits throughout history (only six have occurred since the invention of the telescope in the 1600s). Basic information on what a transit it, why it is important, and how to see it is also provided. Some areas of this resource require Flash, however there is plenty of important information to learn from that doesn't.
