Cliohistory.org is an educational organization that develops engaging online history projects designed to assist educators through documentaries, websites, and other media. Viewers learn about various American historical events through virtual history and photography exhibits. A few examples are: Votes for Women, Quilts As a Visual History, Native Americans: Our First Historians, among others. Some exhibits contain ready-made lesson plans, and videos for grades 3-12.
In the Classroom
Engage your students in learning about history with interactive maps, multimedia resources, and primary and secondary sources. All students, especially visual learners, will find these resources help them connect with historical events and figures more personally to make history feel more relevant and engaging. Enhance learning by having students create a timeline of historical events using Padlet, reviewed here. Use the exhibits as writing prompts to analyze historical information. Sign up for a free account and create engaging and interactive learning materials for your students. The free account includes 3 Frames with 8 participants. This virtual reality (VR) platform is easy and accessible, even for those with little to no experience in VR development.
In the Classroom
Use Frame VR in many different ways in the classroom. For example, teachers can create virtual field trips for places such as ancient cities, allowing learners to explore and learn in an immersive way. In addition, using the platform to create stories or narratives and develop educational games would increase student engagement. TeacherMatic.com is a set of artificial intelligence (AI) generators that create various teacher materials. Required tasks that take up much of your teaching time just got easier! The website offers lesson planning, student tracking, grade book management, and resource sharing. After registering for a free account, you can generate up to five activities per day.
In the Classroom
There are two types of AI generators on the site; course planning and activity generators. The course planning generators can create lesson objectives, flash cards, topic notes, and a scheme of work. The course activity generator creates learning activities, rubrics, multiple-choice quizzes, SMART goals, discussion topics, and more. To use TeacherMatic's generators, click on what you would like to create, enter an objective, the number of moves you need, and the level of complexity your lesson requires. Conker.ai is an online platform that can help teachers create online quizzes for students of all grades. Teachers can easily customize quizzes based on the topic, the number of questions, and the difficulty level. Questions can be multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, or a combination of both. Quizzes can be completed online using an access code or exported to a Google form. First, you must create an account with Google, which requires you to give access to your Google Drive.
In the Classroom
Teachers can input relevant topics or subjects for their students, select a suitable grade level, and specify the number of questions needed. Many different output languages make this an excellent resource for world language teachers. For example, enter a short reading passage of up to 1,200 words and generate questions from the selection in just a few minutes! Use ClassPoint's tutorials after downloading this tool onto your compatible Windows device to learn how to add quizzes, create word clouds, upload videos, and use the other features available with ClassPoint. Take lessons beyond your typical slide show presentations using ClassPoint's interactive component to engage students and connect learning through multimedia presentations. Insert polls within your slides to gauge students' understanding of the content or ask them to respond to questions throughout the presentation. Though the grade level for this almost wordless picture book is PreK-3rd, this tribute to the American flag with its themes of freedom, unity, and strength will appeal to older students and adults, too. Students use the provided gameboard and instructions to complete their choice of challenge tasks in language arts, social studies, science, STEM topics, and the arts. Play continues until students land on the FINISH space.
In the Classroom
Share this activity with parents and students to encourage learning over the summer on your class website or end-of-year newsletter. Encourage students to share their activities and to remain active over the summer using interactive slide presentations made with Canva for Education, reviewed here. Create a topic for students to share their progress throughout the game and discuss how they complete tasks. For example, one of the coding activities challenges students to create a carnival game in Microsoft MakeCode, reviewed here.
