Flickr allows you to upload and share images in an online location. It is not specifically an education site, so it has the drawback of possibly including "inappropriate" content. As a teaching tool, you can upload picture collections and "tag" them with a unique keyword so students can access them for various activities, such as creating sequenced "comic strips," making annotated posters, including photos in blogs, and other electronic projects. This is a great way to make the photos accessible for the students to use. Note: use the DIRECT URL to the specifically-tagged photos ("photosynthesisproject") or create a collection for each project.
In the Classroom
Join the site for free (and make sure you turn OFF all the "send me emails" features). Place photos online for all the projects you expect to do with students. They will remain in place for future years. If you wish to, remove them from "public" viewing when you do not need them. Note: You MUST be the actual copyright holder to upload photos to this site, so use your digital camera, NOT downloaded photos from the web! Skills needed: taking and saving digital pictures, location and upload of photo files, "tagging" them so students can a find them, copying the URL of the tagged group or of the collection, and changing the attributes of your uploaded pictures. Use Flipboard to collect, explore, and share information from many sources, all in a magazine-style format. Flipboard can hold specific articles and images you choose or a dynamic "feed" from a web source such as CNN, a Twitter hashtag, or a favorite blog. Most Flipboard consumers read their magazines on mobile devices, but you can manage and access your magazines from the "web tools" page (the link from this review) on a computer. Create your personal magazine(s) with things you care about: news, staying connected, social networks, and more. Create an account with Flipboard and then connect with LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or YouTube. Click the More panel to browse other categories and add them to your magazines. Drag the Flipboard button to your bookmarks bar or use the Flipboard app on your smartphone or tablet. Find an article you want to add to your collection? Click the + button next to the article to save it or simply click "Flip It" on your computer's browser toolbar to add that web page to your magazine. Create a class Flipboard account and create magazines for each unit studied through the year. Add information that is useful for student understanding, application of concepts, or materials to be used for projects. Create a magazine of great articles and information to read or search through. Consider creating a Flipboard magazine for student current events or happenings. Use this for reports on various topics such as food issues, diseases, political information, cultures around the world, and more. Make a customized "feed" for more advanced information on a topic for your gifted and advanced students. Students can curate a Flipboard of pictures or videos from the web on a certain topic to share with their classmates. Create a Professional Development Flipboard with other teachers. Teacher-librarians may want to work together with classroom teachers to create magazines of certain content for students to use during research units. Challenge your middle and high school gifted students to curate a magazine for themselves on a topic of individual interest, creating a "PLN" they can use for years. For example, a student interested in rocketry can locate and add blogs from rocket scientists, NASA feeds, and more. Talented writers may want to collect feeds from literary publications and author blogs. They will probably also discover related Flipboards created by others. As gifted students' interests change, they can curate other topical "magazines" to keep learning, even if the topics do not fall within the traditional curriculum. You may find that the personalization of learning is something ALL your students want to do.Comments

Flippity is a versatile and useful tool for creating many types of educational activities, games, and assessments. Easily modify the included templates to suit any subject or content area.
Flippity integrates with Google Sheets, allowing users to input and organize data to use in their activities easily; updates to Google Sheets are automatically reflected in the Flippity activity.
Templates include flashcards,10-sided multimedia flex cards, quizzes, crossword puzzles, and more. Customization options include adding images and text, choice of fonts and colors, and the ability to embed videos or other multimedia elements into activities. Flippity offers helpful tutorials to guide users through the process of creating and customizing content.

This is a fantastic tool for vocabulary development in any subject area! Create flashcards for your classes or have them make their own using individual or a whole class Google account. Use them as an introduction to a concept, then again in the practice of the concept, and again as a final review. It is a nice three-for-one deal! Use with science terms or for standardized test preparation. Have students create flashcards and share with each other to quiz themselves within their own groups. Encourage students in upper grades to create their own spreadsheet and flash card sets. Show them how to carefully read through their classroom notes and underline the most important word or words in a sentence. Then have them leave out the most important words for their flashcards. Learning support teachers might want to have small groups create cards together to review before tests. Have students create flash card sets to "test" classmates on what they "teach" in oral reports. Create online charts, maps, and interactive stories from your spreadsheets using Flourish. Modify technology use by uploading any spreadsheet (or copy and paste directly from Excel) to create tables without downloading additional software. After creating your free account follow prompts to design and construct a visualization or animated story. When finished, publish and share using the provided link, download the image to your computer, or use the code to embed into your website or blog. Free accounts include features to share your information publicly.
In the Classroom
Use Flourish to create and share information in many different ways. Ask students to upload information, then create bar graphs, pie charts, and line charts to view the same statistics through different methods. Use the animated story feature to display statistics over time. For example, when students create projects about climate change, ask them to create an animated story that shares facts from different decades with each decade becoming a new point in the story to demonstrate change. Because this site features many different options for sharing data, have different groups of students become experts on how to build and share different types of charts then share their expertise with their peers. Include student work created using Flourish within bigger projects using Zeemaps, reviewed here. Zeemaps allows students to create audio recordings AND choose various locations on a map where the report takes place. This tool is best used by teachers for ongoing formative assessment. If allowing students to create formative assessments, be sure to create a separate class Google and Flubaroo account for use. Consider assigning groups to to make daily quizzes for the whole class to take as an ongoing formative assessment. Setup a marking key and view instant data on who is correct. Students can create an account to get access to the materials you create. The site works on all devices and integrates with Google Classroom. Formative is aligned to many standards including Common Core, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and many other common standards. Create a free account. All assignments are organized in the dashboard. Click on New Assignment to begin and choose to start from scratch or upload a document. Select a template and use basic editing tools to automatically enhance, rotate, crop, resize, and adjust lighting on images. Choose from many effects such as vintage, sepia, and other color effects. Add frames, apply a splash of color, or add text. When finished, save to your computer. Share on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, or email with links provided. Other options include templates for creating collages, photo cards, and HDR images. All options are clearly labeled, and edits are available until you are happy with the finished result. Looking to create a collage? With Fotor, you can do that, too! At the time of this review, fotor was available as an app for iPhone, Android and works on Windows and Mac.

In the Classroom
Include this site in many classroom activities in many different learning activities. For example, ask students to design an avatar for a character in a book they are reading and add text about their character. Create avatars for famous people in history to summarize their stories. Ask students to create avatars to use for reports and blog posts. For example, when using edublogs, reviewed here, ask students to add their avatar image to their blog post as a replacement for a picture. Ask students to create avatars for parent/teacher conferences. When conferencing with the parent, share their student's avatar on the interactive whiteboard or within your remote conferencing app. Ask the student to include text that tells about their educational progress. Easily design and share comic strips using one of the many templates available from Adobe Express. Select any shared templates on the home page to begin, or sign in to your Adobe Express account and select comic strips from the template options. Searching through the templates is most accessible by viewing only free designs. After choosing a template, use the dashboard to add and modify the contents of the comic strip. Options include changing backgrounds, adding text and images, adding shapes, and much more. When finished, download your design as a JPG, PNG, or PDF document. Then, use the publish option to create a link, share to Google Classroom or Teams, or choose from other social media sharing options.
In the Classroom
Engage students by using the templates to display the day's vocabulary word, the math puzzle of the week, or a concept your students are learning in social studies or science, for example. Have students create comic strips for dialog-writing lessons, summarizing, predicting, and retelling stories. Use comic strips for literature responses. For pre-reading students, create a comic of pictures and tell the story based on the pictures/scenes. It's a good idea to require students to create a rough draft of their comic using Printable Comic Strip Templates, reviewed here. Make a class book of the comics created throughout the year. That book is likely to become a class favorite! Use comics to show the sequencing of events. For example, when studying characterization, they create a dialog to show (not tell) about a character. World language and ENL/ESL teachers can assign students to create dialog strips as an alternative to a formal assessment. DesignCap provides a quick and easy infographic maker for you to use. No expertise in graphic design is necessary. First, create an account with Google, Facebook, or your email. Next, choose "Infographic" from the left menu. You can then choose the format of infographic you wish to create, such as Process, Timeline, Health, and several others. Once you have the format you want, choose "Customize." You can select a different font and size, upload images from your computer or their library, change the background, and more. When finished, save your infographic to work on or view later or download it to your computer.
In the Classroom
Introduce DesignCap's infographic templates found on the left menu. Ask students to select one that appeals to them, and then create one as a class for a concept you just learned or as a review for a test. Show on your whiteboard or with a projector how to select a template or create your own, where to find the image library, and how to upload your own images. Once the class has saved the infographic, you can have them create infographics on their own to include in multimedia reports, as a book report, as a study aid for a test, or to show what they've learned from a unit of study. Generate any image you can describe with text using the online image generator from Canva, reviewed here. Canva employs three tools (apps) to generate images - Magic Media, Dall-E by Open AI, and Imagen by Google Cloud. Begin by selecting the link to generate images, then select the tool of your choice. Magic Media is built into Canva's design tools and is accessible when creating a design. Dall-E generates realistic images and art; Imagen turns text into photorealistic images. Use Dall-E or Imagen in an existing design or create a new one. After selecting an app, add a text description of the image to generate, including as much detail as possible. Continue revising your text until you are satisfied with the image, then add filters, effects, or other elements available from Canva's library to complete your image. Follow the directions to add your image to your Canva library, include it in a presentation, or share it directly with any supported platforms.
In the Classroom
Use Canva's image generator for any number of classroom uses to encourage creativity and bring any idea to life instantly! Teach students to use descriptive language in writing to bring characters and settings to life. Generate images of historical characters to help students visualize historical events or places. In science class, ask students to generate images of systems or molecules to represent abstract concepts.
