Spific is search engine designed to narrow down searches by the use of filters (they call them "refinements"). Although it is powered by Google's search algoithm, it is not affiliated or endorsed by Google. Enter your search term as usual. Choose where you want results to come from among several categories. Categories include news and newspapers, Internet directories, dictionaries, videos, movies, and much more. Refine results even further by choosing specific newspapers or websites within results. A date range narrows news results.
This site includes advertising.

In the Classroom

Use Spific to find online newspaper content quickly and easily or compare definitions from different sources. Use an online tool such as Interactive Two Circle Venn Diagram (reviewed here) to compare information from two different sites. Provide a link for students to use this site to make searching easier when working on book reports, research projects, or presentations. Demonstrate how to use the search on your interactive whiteboard (or projector) and point out how to narrow down results using links to individual sites. This site would be ideal to include in a search engine comparison for information literacy/fluency lessons.

ZeroGPT offers a suite of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including a plagiarism checker, chat, summarizer, spell checker, citation generator, and more. Select a tool from the left side of the chat box, then type in text, upload a document, or paste text to begin. Registration isn't required but allows you to save and access your history. Free plans include up to 15,000 characters in AI detection, 1,500 in the AI Summarizer, 300 words in the paraphraser, and 1,000 prompts in ZeroChat-4.
This site includes advertising.

In the Classroom

Use ZeroGPT for several purposes, including checking student work for AI-written content with the AI detector tool. However, caution should be exercised, as not all information provided by AI tools is accurate. The AI checker gives you a percentage likelihood that the content is either written by AI or a human. This site should be used as part of a qualified educator's overall evaluation of work and not as a sole means of evaluation. If students use AI to create writing projects, images, or media, teach them to use the citation generator to provide credit for using AI in their work.

It includes learning objectives and materials for teachers to use with students.

In the Classroom

In addition to the existing lesson plan, in small groups, have students use FreeComicMaker.com, reviewed here to create comics featuring heroes who respect copyright laws and villains who disregard them. This project encourages creativity and application of knowledge in a new context extending learning. Then, organize a virtual gallery walk for students to view each group's comics. Utilize a quiz program like Kahoot, reviewed here and use the information from the lesson to create a quiz that focuses on different aspects of copyright. Have students create their own Legal or Illegal trading card utilizing Trading Card Creator, reviewed here.
This resource requires PDF reader software like Adobe Acrobat.

Learn about documentary cinema from the experts, 38 eminent documentary film directors. Select any director to begin then choose a topic. Although many interviews are in a foreign language, all clips contain closed captioning in English. Another option for browsing through the site is to choose topics from the list that includes planning and preparation, relationships, and more. Use this option to learn about topics from a variety of directors' perspectives.

In the Classroom

Use Capturing Reality in writing and film-making classes to help students understand the power of words and the variety of topics to consider when telling a story (not just documentaries). Select a topic to explore over a period of time and encourage students to develop that skill through storytelling. Be sure to visit Read, Write, Think, reviewed here, to find many classroom resources and activities that correlate to storytelling. For example, Read, Write, Think has a lesson entitled 3-2-1 Vocabulary: Learning Filmmaking Vocabulary by Making Films that teaches students how to develop vocabulary by filming and editing a short video. As students gather information and ideas about a topic, enhance their learning by asking them to create infographics using Canva Infographic Maker, reviewed here, to share and demonstrate important film-making topics. Have students upload their own video projects to an online portfolio creation tool like KudosWall, , reviewed here. Use KudosWall to help students build their resume of work, including reflections on their creation process and their personal growth.

Be sure to read the comments at the bottom of the post for some additional ideas for using QR codes in the classroom.

In four easy steps, use artificial intelligence (AI) to generate anime images. Choose a character, select a color palette, fine-tune details such as facial expressions and background, and finish by choosing a favorite pose. If desired, give your character a name before downloading the image in PNG format from the link provided.

In the Classroom

Use anime to engage students in many topics by creating anime-style images with this resource. Spark creativity in writing projects by creating and displaying portraits with several moods, then ask students to create a story that accompanies the featured images. Share the images with students and ask them to include them on their story document created using Microsoft Word or Google Docs. Extend learning by allowing students to include anime images as part of comic strip stories created using a comic creation tool like ToonyTool, reviewed here. Create comics that tell the steps and outcomes of science experiments, describe Japanese landmarks, or retell folk tales. It's a good idea to require students to create a rough draft of their comic using Printable Comic Strip Templates, reviewed here. When using AI-generation tools, always provide guidance on using resources ethically, creatively, and responsibly.
